Meditate on His Goodness
"Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him. Who is the help of my [sad] countenance, and my God. " (Psalms 43:5, Amplified). Depression is one of the most common emotional ailments in society today. In this passage of scripture the psalmist was depressed and discouraged because he was exiled in a place far from Jerusalem and could not worship in the temple or participate in the festivities. But he did not stay depressed, he discovered a remedy for His depression. It was one of praise and meditating on God's goodness to His people. We too can benefit from this when we experience times of depression and discouragement. Focusing our attention on God and who He is and what He has already done in our lives, will take our minds off of our present circumstance and give us hope it will improve. This places our thoughts on His ability to help us rather that our inability to help ourselves. So when you feel depressed and discouraged remember one of the best anti-depressant is praising God and meditating on His goodness towards you.
