Choosing To Be Free
“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2, NKJV).
Do you realize before Christ came and shed His blood we were enslaved to sin? It dominated, controlled and dictated all our actions. But this scripture says we no longer have to live in bondage to sin because Jesus has made us free. So why is it so many of us do not experience this freedom? It’s called choice. We can choose to be free or we can choose to live our lives in anger, bitterness and un-forgiveness.
I am reminded of the story of Joseph and all the wrongs he suffered. Thrown into a pit, then sold into slavery by his brothers because of jealousy. Once in Egypt he was lied on and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. If anyone had a reason to be angry and bitter it was Joseph. But was he? Every situation Joseph found himself in he yielded to the Lord and honored God in every situation. In so doing he was elevated to a high office in Egypt. Although Joseph had ample opportunity to take revenge on his family when they came to Egypt to purchase food, due to a famine in the land, he chose not to. He chose the way of love instead.
The choice is ours as well. We can choose to hold on to our pain and stay in bondage or let it go and experience the blessed joy that only freedom brings.
